Ein nachhaltiger Umgang mit unseren natürlichen Ressourcen gehört zu unseren Grundwerten. It is important to us that our children and grandchildren find our blue planet still reasonably intact. We act on our convictions in three main areas.
- Responsible management of our resources
- Environmental protection in our operations
- Social commitment
The products under the “Friesländer” brand are our classics, offering fair value for money. The Friesenstern brand, on the other hand, is our entry-level range. Unlike Friesland smoked salmon sides, Friesenstern smoked salmon sides are combined salted (dry salting and injection salting), skinless, and cut to class “C” trim (only the tip of the belly flap has been removed, but some white belly skin may be present). Friesland smoked salmon is 100% dry-salted and cut according to Trimm D (belly flaps have been completely removed, no white belly skin to be found). Both products are smoked over beech wood using Germany’s coldest smoking process.
Smoked eel is a particularly popular delicacy traditionally in this country. Therefore, we are pleased to have found a sustainable way to keep it in our product range: Our eels come from aquaculture farms. In addition, for every kilo of eel sold, we financially support the “Initiative for the Promotion of the European Eel e.V.”. This initiative is committed to the recovery of eel stocks in European inland waters and coastal lagoons.
Unlike Norwegian salmon, which belong to the Atlantic salmon genus, Sockeye wild salmon belongs to the Pacific salmon genus and is native to the subarctic Pacific. It gets its intense red color from its diet of small crustaceans and fish, which in turn feed on algae and individual organisms containing red pigments. Through food intake, these pigments are stored in the salmon’s fatty tissue, leading to the red coloration of the meat. Since individual salmon species feed differently, the color of the salmon’s flesh also varies.
Food businesses are obliged to follow special hygiene standards. Since smoked fish is a very sensitive product, plastic packaging still best meets the high hygiene standards. As long as there is no sustainable, safe, and economically viable alternative, recycling is also the cleanest solution for our films and bags.
